Ahhh, yes. The ever important first post to a new blog. Break out the champagne and the noise makers, because this is truly a day for the history books.
No, but seriously.
To give you all a little bit of background information (nevermind the section to the right that says "About Me." Forget about it, this is more important).
I'm 23 years old and have a passion for sports.
Oh, I'm supposed to write more?
Well I reckon you'll learn about me as the days, weeks, months and years go by, so no point in wasting space now! (Maybe you will want to look at that About Me section after all...)
Oh and thanks to Tim Rosenthal over at Rosie's Hockey for helping me with the new blog name. Catchy, no?
Anyway, you ready? Let's get Down to Bizness.
CHEERS AND JEERS OF THE OLYMPICS
Overall these Olympics were pretty grand. I found myself watching everything from the nordic combined, to curling and of course, the creme de la creme, hockey. But not all was fine and dandy. Let me fill you in on my top moments and not so top moments.
CHEERS:
-Big cheer to Scotty Lago, native of Seabrook, NH and bronze medalist in the Men's halfpipe. I know the boy and went to school with him. That means I, too, earned a bronze medal right? Just roll with me and my enthusiasm here. Anyway, great job, Scotty! We are all proud.
-Respect and applause for Joannie Rochette for continuing to skate after her mother passed away days before. Heart-wrenching performance and she nailed it. It left me speechless and in tears.
-Cheer to the huge representation of North East Olympians! 10 women hockey players alone had ties back to the Northeast, as well as many other medalists. And of course, Kacey Bellamy, former UNH star made her Olympic debut and now boasts an Olympic silver medal. Would it be too much if I were to say I took some credit for that too because I went to her games at UNH? Superfluous.
-Cheer to the USA Men's hockey team for putting on quite the show for us back at home. You really showed that Canada wasn't the only country that could play competitive hockey. Double cheer to Miller for being a brick wall. Incredible. Bonus too for keeping the Canadian population off the bridges. Classy.
-Standing ovation to the entire USA Olympic team for bringing home 37 medals (9 gold, 15 silver, 13 bronze), topping the next best country, Germany by 7 medals. Proud to be an American!
Ok, and now for the JEERS:
-Boo to the IOC for forcing Scotty Lago to leave the Olympics early because of a few "risque" pictures. He's a 22 year old male snowboarder... until he chokes someone to death with the medal, stop fretting.
-Thumbs down to curling. Now, this year I really tried to get excited about the sport. I thought maybe I missed something before and this year was really the time I was going to get involved. Ohhhhhh no. I watched for an hour and a half and literally almost cried of boredom. I think I chose to scrub the bathroom instead of watch it. Honestly, kudos to all the athletes, but geez louise, I can't watch it for long periods of time.
-BIG Boo to NBC for sidelining half the hockey games to MSNBC or CNBC and showed nordic combined or curling instead. Get your priorities straight guys.
-Boo to the problems that arose for Team USA on the Alpine skiing events. Vonn and Mancuso kinda left a bad taste in your mouth by the end of it.
-And finally, this wouldn't be complete without a drawn out boo to Mr. Sid the Kid Crosby. Just because. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
That's it for this edition of Down to Bizness. Check back in the next couple of days for hockey trade deadline thoughts, UNH hockey preview of this weekends games and a whole lot more!
Thanks for reading!
